Southwest Florida is experiencing dry conditions, and the South Florida Water Management District has issued a water shortage advisory. We want our members to know BSU is prepared and your drinking water supply remains reliable.
What members should know
Your water is safe. Our supply is stable. Our system is designed to provide dependable drinking water year-round.
How we plan ahead
BSU does not rely on a single water source. In addition to our permitted freshwater supply, we have invested in an alternative water source that allows us to treat brackish groundwater using advanced reverse osmosis technology.
This approach was designed specifically to provide flexibility during periods of reduced rainfall. When freshwater availability is lower, we are able to rely more heavily on our alternative source while continuing to meet member demand.
Over the past several years, we have expanded our alternative water supply wellfield and strengthened treatment capacity specifically to improve reliability during both wet and dry seasons.
Conservation matters
We work closely with the South Florida Water Management District and follow all regional water use requirements. Responsible water use is always encouraged, especially during dry weather. Please follow all conservation measures outlined here and as required by the South Florida Water Management District.
We will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates as needed.
