Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. members who replace outdated, inefficient toilets in their homes with high-efficiency models can be flush with savings of up to $100 per toilet through a newly introduced rebate program.
The EPA estimates that toilets account for nearly 30% of an average home’s water usage and consume as much as 6 gallons per flush. New high-efficiency models use about 1.6 gallons per flush, with some WaterSense-labeled models using no more than 1.28 gallons per flush.
“For our members tackling home improvement projects or plumbing repairs, this program offers an opportunity to recoup some of their out-of-pocket expenses,” said John R. Jenkins, BSU executive director. “Over time, they’ll also reap long-term savings on their utility bills and help preserve our water resource.”
BSU rebate guidelines require that the new toilet must use 1.6 gallons per flush or less and replace a non-efficient toilet. A $100 rebate per toilet will be credited to the member’s account, with a limit of two rebates per household. The total rebate per item will not exceed the receipt amount. The program is funded in part through a $10,000 grant from the South Florida Water Management District.
To be eligible for the rebate program, members must provide a copy of proof of purchase receipt from a store or plumbing company that specifies the purchase date, purchase price, manufacturer and model number. Prior to approval, an on-site inspection may be required.
To apply for the rebate, BSU members can complete an online form or download a rebate application at www.bsu.us/high-efficiency-toilet-rebate or visit the Customer Service Center for a paper application. The completed application and a copy of sales receipt(s) can be emailed to customerservice@bsu.us or mailed to Bonita Springs Utilities Inc., Toilet Rebate Program, 11900 E.
