BSU introduces WaterSmart for customers to manage water use and bills

Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. members now have access to WaterSmart, a free online portal to access detailed information about their household water use.

WaterSmart provides water usage information through BSU’s advanced meter infrastructure program. The AMI system uses a small radio device to periodically transmit low-power radio signals wirelessly from water meters through a dedicated communication channel, eliminating the need for manual meter reading. The customer portal, WaterSmart, provides members with online access to their detailed water use information and the ability to monitor their usage in near real time.

“With our transition to an AMI system, we are excited to provide member access to WaterSmart so they can be more informed about their household water use,” said John R. Jenkins, BSU executive director. “This technology provides a number of tools to benefit members, including access to near real-time water usage data, potential leak detection, personalized recommendations on how to save water, and more.”

Members can learn more about WaterSmart and how to sign up for this free service at www.bsu.us/amiwatersmart. Members with an AMI meter can access current water usage data for each billing period, as well as historical usage dating back two years. Members who have not yet been upgraded to an AMI meter can still register and access historical usage data. All AMI meters are expected to be installed by September.
