Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. has completed the installation of its Advanced Meter Infrastructure system and all members now have access to WaterSmart, a free online portal that provides detailed information about their household water use.
“We are excited the AMI system installation is complete for all members, both residential and commercial,” said John R. Jenkins, BSU executive director. “It will greatly enhance our ability to provide near real time usage data to our members through our online portal, WaterSmart. Members can now monitor their usage, set alerts and much more.”
The AMI system is a water metering technology that allows for the direct transmission of both water and wastewater data between the point of consumption and BSU. AMI makes it possible for meter data to be read in near-real time, which eliminates the need to manually read water meters. This new system will help BSU reduce environmental impacts and expenses, saving operational costs for the utility and ultimately, members.
WaterSmart provides water usage information to members through the AMI system. Members can log into their personalized portal to access detailed water use information and monitor their usage in near real time. The platform is designed to act as a single hub for customers to obtain detailed information on their water use, review historical water usage, check for and resolve leaks, access and pay their monthly bills, act on customized water-saving recommendations to reduce monthly bills, obtain rebate information, submit forms, and view targeted messages about events and programs.
Members have shared positive feedback with BSU on being able to identify leaks both inside and outside their homes in a timely manner, receive alerts for high water usage and other benefits. Members who have not yet accessed WaterSmart can learn more and sign up at www.bsu.us/amiwatersmart.
