BSU competes at Nationals in California

Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. recently won first place in the Florida Section American Water Works Association’s Top Ops Challenge at the 2024 Florida Water Resources Conference, and will now go onto compete nationally at the AWWA’s Annual Conference and Expo in California.

“Our team is made up of Plant Manager David Rodriguez, Lead Operator Brandon Gentry and Operator Merritt Stewart. Top Ops is a friendly competition against other industry professionals and a highlight of the conference,” said John R. Jenkins, BSU executive director. “We are proud of our team and their effort, which reflects the level of professionalism and talent that our operators demonstrate every day on the job.”

The purpose of the AWWA ACE Top Ops Competition is to recognize and promote excellence and professionalism in all aspects of water operations by establishing a competition that gives operators the opportunity to showcase their talents. The AWWA ACE Top Ops Competition is a competitive, question-and-answer tournament where a moderator asks a broad range of technical questions to the participating teams and they have limited time to answer.

Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. is a not-for-profit water and wastewater utility cooperative founded by local citizens in 1970. The member-owned utility provides service in the City of Bonita Springs, the Village of Estero and unincorporated South Lee County. The utility is recognized as an industry leader with awards from the American Water Works Association, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Florida Water Environment Association.
