Applications for the Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. board of directors will be available Dec. 1. Anyone interested in running for a board position may pick up an application from the BSU office at 11900 E. Terry St. Completed forms must be returned to the office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Members of the not-for-profit water and wastewater utility cooperative will elect three representatives for three-year terms this spring.

A candidate must be a member and a resident of the area served by BSU, and cannot be related to a current board member. Any individual who receives BSU services through a homeowners or condominium association must furnish written authorization from that association’s board of directors to serve as its designated representative for the entire term.

Ballots will be mailed to BSU members in mid-February and election results will be announced at the utility’s annual meeting Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Incumbents Paul J. Attwood, Brian Farrar and Ben Nelson are eligible to run for re-election. Other board members are Robert Bachman, Frank W. Liles Jr., Mike Malloy, Vincent J. Marchesani, Robert Sharkey and James Strecansky.

The nine-member board of directors sets policy for the utility and meets at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month. In addition, each board member serves on various committees and task groups, working with the utility’s staff, spending 10 to 40 hours on BSU business each month. Board members receive monthly stipends and are eligible for health insurance coverage.
