Are you prepared for Hurricane Season?

During or after a hurricane, we may issue boil water notices and service alerts. Remember: as a BSU member, your water and wastewater service comes from BSU, not other utilities or local governments that may issue separate notices.

Prepare in Advance of a Storm

  • If your home has a water shut-off valve, locate it and clear out any shrubbery or obstructions.
  • Locate your sewer clean-out lid and remove any shrubbery or obstructions.
  • If you evacuate, turn off the water shut-off valve to minimize damage to your home’s interior if a pipe bursts.
  • If you turn off the water shut-off valve, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for turning off or unplugging your hot water heater.

Limit Water Use After a Storm

  • Limit toilet flushing and water faucet use.
  • Avoid using dishwashers and washing machines to reduce water use.
  • Even if your home has power, the lift station providing wastewater service to your neighborhood may not be operational.
