BSU will change tap-water treatment during May


BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (April 23, 2012) – Bonita Springs Utilities will temporarily change its water-treatment process during May as a routine, preventative-maintenance measure. Customers may notice a slightly different smell or taste in their tap water, but the change is temporary and harmless.

Bachman re-elected president of BSU board

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (April 5, 2012) – The Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. board of directors elected Bob Bachman for a second term as president. Jim Strecansky was elected vice president, and Frank Liles and John Mathes were re-elected treasurer and secretary respectively. BSU member-customers elect the nine board members to govern the utility.

BSU launches alternative fuel program

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (March 26, 2012) – Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. has launched a pilot program to test compressed natural gas to fuel its vehicle fleet. Potential benefits include lower fuel costs, longer engine lives and reduced emissions into the environment.

Koebel named BSU director of operations

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (March 1, 2012) – Andrew W. Koebel, P.E., has been named director of operations for Bonita Springs Utilities. Koebel manages 72 employees and oversees the operation of two water production plants and two water reclamation facilities, as well as the associated fieldwork and service activities. His predecessor, Mel Fisher, retired after 14 years with the member-owned utility.

(Jan. 24, 2012) – The Florida Section of the American Water Works Association named Bonita Springs Utilities as winner of the 2011 Division 4 Water Distribution Award for excellence in water quality, operations records, maintenance, professionalism, safety, emergency preparedness and cross-connection control programs.

Eight candidates running for BSU board seats

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (Jan. 4, 2012) – Eight candidates, including two incumbents, are running for three seats on the board of directors of Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. The candidates are retired educator Richard Brant, former city council member Richard Ferreira, retired deputy fire chief Edward Fitzgerald, retired business executive Domingo Garcia, licensed professional engineer Richard Lundberg, incumbent and licensed professional engineer Dave McKee, energy company vice president Mike Malloy, and incumbent and retired Fortune 500 company executive James Strecansky.

Water Conservation
The South Florida Water Management District is a regional governmental agency that oversees the water resources in the southern half of the state, covering 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys and serving a population of 7.5 million residents.

It is the oldest and largest of the state's five water management districts. Created in 1949, the agency is responsible for managing and protecting water resources of South Florida by balancing and improving water quality, flood control, natural systems and water supply.
